Get ready to be offended.

No more Mister Nice Guy.. or in my case Ms. Nice Gal. Get ready for an earful of all that I’ve been holding back.. for YEARS! It’s time to unload, even at the risk of offending friends, family and the WORLD.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who has tip-toed around trying not to upset people around me while others rant their opinions fearlessly. In the mean time my thoughts and feelings were pushed back until buried deep into my soul. NO MORE FOLKS… All that stops right here, right now.

a pink Royal typerwriterFirst… I don’t care what yours is, but my favorite color is PINK.  Right now I am wearing a pink shirt and I have a pink cover for the iPad. I have a pink umbrella. (I honestly thought by choosing pink the guys would leave my things alone… wrong!) Okay, today it’s pink but that could change tomorrow. I just bought a green purse cause…well, I liked it. And soon the leaves will start changing and I love the oranges and yellows of fall… Okay, maybe this is not a good topic to start with.

Food… YES!  We all have our favorites and you may not agree with me but I have held this in since grade school. One of my favorite foods is spinach. It wasn’t cool in school to like spinach so I had to hone my acting skills and participate in the ewwww-yuck routine toward the offensive green leaf. I didn’t have the courage to stand tall and declare my true feelings. Except when I was home… where I was free to be me when the spinach was passed. I lived my 5th grade life as a hypocrite. It feels good to get that out in the open.

Bookshelves, the classicsOh, and… I don’t like reading “the Classics“. Who decided these books were classics in the first place? Just because someone a long, long, loooong time ago found some hidden meaning that related to their life doesn’t mean it will be the same for me. (My life is different, I like pink and spinach.) Besides, there aren’t a lot of guffaw moments in War and Peace and I love a good guffaw. It is hard to lift a snooty, look how smart I am nose at someone when it is deep in a Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum story. Lula and Grandma Mazur have given me many moments of laughter-tears and I’m more than okay with that. I feel no regret for not fawning over the classics.

Now this is where it gets really touchy…  I staunchly believe in my second amendment right to bare arms. Of course this right should be used cautiously and with great consideration as to place and purpose. But times are different. I’m going to exercise this right even if it offends those around me…

I know, my arms have turned saggy and for years I have kept them covered out of respect for others. But I’m old now and I just don’t care what others think… I’m going to do what I want. And if I want to go sleeveless — I will.

However, if I had guns like this it would be a non-issue.

flexed arm, woman

But I don’t… so close your eyes. I’m going sleeveless with no apologies!

It’s my right…

  1. Oh Ellen, I’m happy to hear you say that you don’t like reading the classics. I feel the same way but also feel compelled to see what I’m missing so am trying to slowly make my way through some of them. White Fang, Dracula, and Call of the Wild weren’t too bad…in fact I kind of enjoyed them. But I’ll never read Les Miserables!

    • I love a good story, I just don’t like dissecting them.

My Grandson is a high school freshman in honors english and I promised to read along with him. Next up, the Great Gatsby. But I’m not feeling the pressure this time around.

      • I lent my copy of The Great Gatsby to my friend who was traveling to Colorado. She called me when she got there and told me she was going to return the book unread. She couldn’t get into it at all. I told her not to feel too badly, I felt the same way and have never read it. I’ll be interested to hear if you like it or not.
